Rays of Knowledge

The ECR 2026 poster is a celebration of the congress theme ‘Rays of Knowledge’.

The theme ‘Rays of knowledge’ refers to the main focus of ECR 2026, namely education. It alludes to radiology (rays) and the acquisition of knowledge symbolised by Athena, the Greek Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and learning. And with her presence in our poster, we are transported back to ancient civilisation, where modern scientific principles originated and where there was a strong emphasis on the search for truth.

Flying from Athena’s outstretched arm is an owl, another symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Just like owls navigate darkness with sharp vision, radiologists illuminate the unseen with a keen eye for detail.

The arm of Athena is transparent, revealing the beauty of the bony structures hidden beneath the surface, expressing radiology’s vast potential of noninvasive in vivo imaging. At the same time, it is a nod, both literally and figuratively to the theme “Rays of Knowledge”, bringing light to the dark.

The statue of Athena with the owl mirrors the spirit of ECR 2026. Just as marble can be crafted to create something beautiful, ECR 2026 offers an opportunity for radiologists and radiographers to increase and sharpen their professional knowledge, thus strengthening their value for patients and medical colleagues alike.
