World Rehabilitation Alliance launch

The launch of the World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA) took place during 3rd Global Rehabilitation 2030 meeting, between 10–11 July, 2023 at the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva which was followed by WRA members meeting on July 12–13, 2024.

The mission of WRA is to give strength to the accomplishment of the aims of the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative through advocacy activities.

The European College of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine joined the WRA as a member organization with representatives in each of the four WRA Workstreams:

Emergencies Workstream: Mauro Zampolini
Primary care Workstream: Nikolaos Barotsis
Research Workstream: Aydan Oral
Workforce Workstream: Wim Janssen

The UEMS PRM Section and Board strongly support the WHA Resolution on " Strengthening Rehabilitation in Health Systems"

Last May, the World Health Assembly unanimously adopted the first-ever resolution on strengthening rehabilitation in health systems, recognizing the large unmet global need for rehabilitation. The resolution calls for the expansion and integration of rehabilitation into health systems as part of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and emphasizes the importance of rehabilitation in all levels of healthcare including in emergency preparedness and response. The UEMS PRM Section and Board are eager to respond to this challenge and stand ready to support Member States in their national efforts to implement the actions of the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative, to strengthen advocacy for rehabilitation through the World Rehabilitation Alliance, and to harness and invest in research and innovation, including health policy and systems research for rehabilitation.
